Prior to filing a Chapter 13 Reorganization, one of my biggest concerns was "how will this affect my credit?" After talking with one of the attorneys at Acclaim Legal Services, they showed me that a Chapter 13 would allow me to consolidate my bills based on my income and my living expenses and lower my overall monthly debt payments. Because of the Chapter 13 I was able to pay back my debts at a fraction of the total amount that I owed and at a monthly payment that was affordable.

At the time that I filed the Chapter 13, I was financing a home. Acclaim showed me that I could file a plan to consolidate my bills without pulling all the equity out of my home. Because of the plan, I was able to refinance my home and get a better interest rate. My payments into the Chapter 13 actually helped me to re-establish my credit and improve my credit score... the lender viewed my consistent payment history into the plan as a positive step to rebuilding my credit and I was able to get a better interest rate and terms for my new loan. Overall, the Chapter 13 helped me to focus on paying down my debts and provided a positive credit source when I wanted to re-finance my home and get a better rate.
